What is Edexcel?
Edexcel is a private examination board based in the United Kingdom and owned by Pearson. Edexcel regulates examinations and qualifications in Britain and across the world. It is the largest organization of its kind in the UK.
History of Edexcel
Edexcel was founded in 1996 from a merger of two existing examination boards. In 2005, Pearson acquired Edexcel, and Edexcel later expanded its offering of international examinations that are designed to provide assessments equivalent to UK standards. Today, Edexcel offers a wide variety of assessments and incorporates several examination boards.
Programs Offered in EdExcel
There are 32 qualifications offered by Edexcel. Some the more popular ones include:
- GCSEs:Â General Certificates of Secondary Education, these are qualifications taken by UK students of school-leaving age in over forty subjects
- International GCSEs:Â the international equivalent of GCSEs
- Advanced Levels:Â These are high school qualifications focused on subject depth, used for assessment in the UK
- International Advanced Levels:Â the international equivalent of A Levels
- iPrimary:Â a six-year program for use in international primary schools
- iLowerSecondary: a three-year program for use in international secondary schools
