A brief history

McMaster University was founded in 1887 in Toronto by the estate of William McMaster, a member of the first Senate after Confederation and the founding president of the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. The university was originally named McMaster University College, and it offered courses in arts and theology. In 1930, the university moved to Hamilton, Ontario, and its name was changed to McMaster University.
