Introduction to Summer Schools at the University of Bristol

The University of Bristol offers a range of summer school opportunities for both undergraduate and pre-undergraduate students. What’s included:

Successfully completing the Summer School ensures an offer for onward applications to University of Bristol Engineering undergraduate courses, provided that you meet the full entry requirements for the chosen course.

About this programme:

During this programme, participants will have the opportunity to work in our laboratories and workshops, collaborating in small teams with our experienced staff. The focus will be on research, design, construction, and testing of various objects. Emphasizing creativity and practical skills, participants will present their work to a panel of experts who will assess their projects and provide feedback.

Entry Requirements:

To be eligible for this summer school, you must meet the following requirements:

Application deadline:

Sunday 11 June 2023

Study level:

Pre-undergraduate: Currently enrolled in 6th form college / high school / Y12-Y13 (16–18 further education)

Subject requirements:

Currently studying mathematics and physics at A-level, International Baccalaureate Higher Level, or international equivalents.

Academic requirements:

Demonstrated strong academic performance with a good academic record. On track to meet the typical entry requirements for undergraduate engineering degree programmes at the University.

English language requirements:

If English is not your first language, you need to meet (or be on track to meet by the time of University application) the University’s English language Profile E requirements. Refer to the University’s Profile E language requirements page and select the ‘English Language Proficiency Tests’ tab for accepted tests and proficiency levels.

Age:

Participants must be 16 years of age or older at the time of the summer school. This summer school is designed for high school students who have not yet commenced university-level studies.

Destination Vet summer school:

What’s included:

Successful completion of the summer school provides participants with 8 days of work experience, which can fulfill in-person work experience requirements for entry to Bristol Vet School in 2024 and beyond.

Entry Requirements:

To be eligible for this summer school, you must meet the following requirements:

Application deadline:

Study level:

Pre-undergraduate: Currently enrolled in 6th form college / high school / Y12-Y13 (16–18 further education)

Subject requirements:

Currently studying Chemistry along with either Biology, Physics, or Maths at A-level, International Baccalaureate Higher Level, or international equivalents.

Academic requirements:

Demonstrated strong academic performance with a good academic record. On track to meet the typical entry requirements for BVSc Veterinary Science at the University.

English language requirements:

If English is not your first language, you need to meet (or be on track to meet by the time of University application) the University’s English language Profile B requirements. Refer to the University’s Profile B language requirements page and select the ‘English Language Proficiency Tests’ tab for accepted tests and proficiency levels.

Age:

Participants must be 16 years of age or older at the time of the summer school. This summer school is designed for high school students who have not yet commenced university-level studies.

Early-bird applicants, International Partner Universities, and Study Abroad student mobility partners are eligible for a £300 discount 

Upon completion of the programme, participants will receive 10 academic credits, equivalent to approximately 5 ECTS credits or 3 US semester credits.

To be eligible for this summer school, participants must meet the following requirements:

Currently enrolled at the undergraduate level

Subject requirements:

Applications are welcome from students of all majors, with a particular focus on anthropology, archaeology, geography, art history, history, sociology, conservation and heritage, classics, and museum studies.

Academic requirements:

Equivalent to a GPA of 60-63% on the UK scale, C on the ECTS scale, or 3.0 on a 4.0 GPA scale.

English language requirements:

Participants whose first language is not English need to meet the University’s English language Profile C requirements.

Accepted English language proficiency tests and corresponding levels can be found on the University’s Profile C language requirements page under the ‘English Language Proficiency Tests’ tab.

Age:

Participants must be 18 years of age or older.

Arts, Activism and Social Justice Summer School

Programme dates:

Sunday 18 June to Saturday 8 July 2023

Entry requirements:

Currently studying at undergraduate level, with a GPA equivalent to 60–63% on the UK scale, C on the ECTS scale, or 3.0 on a 4.0 GPA scale. If English is not your first language, you need to meet our English language Profile C. 

Shakespeare in Performance Summer School

Sunday 30 July to Saturday 19 August 2023

Entry requirements:

Currently studying at undergraduate level, with a GPA equivalent to 60–63% on the UK scale, C on the ECTS scale, or 3.0 on a 4.0 GPA scale. If English is not your first language, you need to meet our English language Profile B. 

STEM Research Projects Summer School

Entry requirements:

Currently studying at undergraduate level, with at least two years of a three-year degree or three years of a four-year degree completed by the start of the summer. Additionally, you must be studying a subject aligned to the chosen primary research project and have a GPA equivalent to a minimum of 60% on the UK scale, C on the ECTS scale, or 3.0 on a 4.0 GPA scale. If English is not your first language, you need to meet our English language Profile E. There are also specific application deadlines

Black Humanities Summer School

Programme dates:

Sunday 25 June to Saturday 15 July 2023

Entry requirements:

Currently studying at undergraduate level, with a GPA equivalent to 60–63% on the UK scale, C on the ECTS scale, or 3.0 on a 4.0 GPA scale. If English is not your first language, you need to meet our English language Profile C. 

Summer School Fee Inclusions:

  • The program fee covers all costs related to tuition, including teaching materials, and provides participants with an official transcript.
  • Additionally, any expenses for laboratory consumables, site materials, or community workshops (where applicable) are included.
  • Participants will be provided with comfortable single-room accommodation in a residence affiliated with the University of Bristol.
  • A catered meal package, consisting of breakfast and dinner, will be provided throughout the entire stay.
  • A team of dedicated student leaders will be available round the clock to offer support and assistance.
  • An exciting social program has been planned to enhance the overall experience.
  • Transfers within Bristol on arrival and departure days will be arranged, covering transportation to and from Bristol Airport, Bristol Bus and Coach Station, or Bristol Temple Meads train station.

What is not included:

  • The program fee does not cover international travel expenses to and from the UK.
  • Participants are responsible for arranging their own transportation to Bristol if traveling within the UK (more information available on the travel page).
  • Transfers within Bristol on days other than arrival and departure days are not included.
  • It is recommended that participants arrange their own travel and medical insurance.
  • Any costs associated with obtaining a visa, if applicable, are not included.
  • Lunch and refreshments between meals are not provided.
  • Participants are advised to bring their own personal spending money.
