All the grants Duke provides are based on need, which means you receive them because of your family’s financial situation.
- Scholarships
Merit Scholarships: All students who apply to Duke are considered for merit scholarships. The Office of University Scholars and Fellows selects merit scholars.

- Work study
For Federal Work Study student participants:
- Payroll will deduct 75% of the allocated earnings to be paid to the student
- The remaining 25% of the allocated earnings is deducted from the department’s cost center.
For Duke Work Study student participants:
- Payroll will deduct 50% of the allocated earnings to be paid to the student
- The remaining 50% of the allocated earnings is deducted from the department’s cost cente
