Teaching Philosophy

I believe mathematics is best learned through inquiry, real-world
application, and conceptual depth rather than rote formulae. She
champions vertically and horizontally aligned learning so students
build on prior understanding with confidence at every stage.

Students Often Struggle With

Bridging the gap between procedural fluency and conceptual
understanding in AI/AA Mathematics, structuring and reflecting on
their Internal Assessment (mathematical exploration), applying
abstract concepts to real-world, interdisciplinary contexts, and
balancing TOK-style critical thinking with technical
problem-solving.

Favourite Part of Teaching

Mentoring students through their IA journey and watching abstract
ideas click into real understanding. She also enjoys the leadership
side of teaching — building strong departments and guiding fellow
educators toward better pedagogy.

More About Sonia

Experience

  • Mathematics Facilitator (DP & MYP) and TOK Supervisor
  • Subject Coordinator supporting curriculum planning and
    vertical alignment
  • Head of Department, leading and mentoring mathematics faculty
  • Deputy DP Coordinator supporting IBDP operations and

Biography

Sonia is a mathematics educator with deep expertise in
the IB framework, having worked across MYP and DP programmes in
leadership capacities including Head of Department and Deputy
DP Coordinator. Her career spans international schools, where
she has designed curriculum frameworks, mentored faculty, and
played key roles in IB and CIS evaluation processes.

Beyond the classroom, she is an active researcher with multiple
publications in applied mathematics, ranging from wavelet
methods for nonlinear differential equations to stochastic
modelling. She has presented at international conferences and
contributed to interdisciplinary academic work connecting
mathematics with real-world systems.

Her blend of academic rigour and hands-on classroom leadership
makes her equally comfortable guiding a struggling student
through an IA and mentoring a team of teachers through an
accreditation visit.

What Students Say

Akhand

The tutor explains difficult concepts clearly and makes every
lesson easy to follow. The guidance helped me become much more
confident and independent in solving problems.

Akhand
Daksh

The lessons are structured, engaging and focused on understanding
rather than memorising. I especially liked the practical
explanations and exam-focused support.

Daksh
Trisha

The personalised feedback helped me understand where I was making
mistakes and how to improve. I became much more confident applying
concepts independently.
