Entry Requirements
As part of your application to the university, you will be required to submit the following documents:
- Official confirmation of your most recent high school grades
- A personal statement
- Evidence of your English language proficiency
- Agreement form to study with us (to be completed online after offer)
For the Pre-University Summer School, all instruction and assessments are conducted in English. Therefore, it is necessary for all applicants to have a minimum English language proficiency level of B2 on the Common European Framework of Reference for languages (CEFR). If English is not your first language, please provide evidence of your English proficiency using one of the following options:
- English language O-Level/IGCSE/GCSE grade C
- International Baccalaureate Standard Level English, grade 4
- IELTS score of 6.0 (or equivalent) with a minimum of 5.5 in each skill
- TOEFL paper-based test: minimum score of 547 with a minimum of 53 in all skills
- TOEFL internet-based test: minimum score of 72 with a minimum of 17 in all skills
- TOEIC: minimum score of 685 in all skills
- Cambridge Advanced Certificate grade C
- Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English: pass

Summer Research
About
During this six-week program, students at the university will engage in an immersive academic research project that aligns with the current research areas within the school. They will have the opportunity to tackle a pressing medical problem by conducting experiments and developing innovative solutions.
Throughout the program, students will assume responsibility for their research project by undertaking various tasks, including conducting a literature review before the program begins, setting goals for the six-week period, designing an experimental strategy to achieve those goals, and working independently under the guidance of an experienced project supervisor.
They will also become integrated into the host lab group, engaging in informal interactions with other researchers and following the format of scientific conferences to disseminate their work through a written report and an oral presentation.
Additionally, students will participate in a weekly seminar focused on academic writing skills and other discipline-specific topics. This comprehensive program can be undertaken either on-campus in London or fully online, providing flexibility to suit different learning preferences.
The program requires a full-time commitment, with a minimum of 35 hours dedicated to project work in the lab each week. Students will also have one-on-one meetings with their project supervisor and participate in lab group meetings throughout the duration of the six weeks.
Assessment for the program will be based on academic research standards, with the primary deliverables including a Literature Review worth 20% of the grade, a Scientific Paper worth 60%, and an Oral Presentation worth 20%. These assessments will reflect the typical methods used in disseminating academic research, ensuring that students develop valuable skills and achieve a comprehensive understanding of their chosen field.
Entry Requirements
Prerequisites:
To be eligible for the summer research module, applicants should have completed their third year of undergraduate studies and have a minimum GPA of 3.3 out of 4. Applicants who have completed their second year with a GPA of at least 3.5 out of 4 will also be considered.
Participants must be studying or have studied a related subject during their undergraduate studies, such as mathematics, physics, engineering, sciences, or medicine.
Participants are required to have a minimum English language proficiency level of C1 on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) or an equivalent qualification.
